The Golden Pheasant, Plumley
Tim highly recommends the Golden Pheasant at Plumley for anyone requiring accomodation when visiting Oulton Park.
The Golden Pheasant is 14 miles from the circuit, just 3/4 of a mile off the A556 (Chester Road), 3 miles from Junction 19 of the M6 Motorway.
The journey from "The Pheasant" to Oulton Park is simple; just leave the hotel turning left onto Plumley Moor Road back to the A556 Chester Road, turn left at the lights onto the A556 and head towards Chester along the dual carriageway for 9 miles (through two roundabouts and three sets of traffic lights) through Sandiway to the Shell Petrol Station at Oakmere traffic lights. Turn left there onto the A49 towards Tarporley (also signposted Whitchurch and Shrewsbury) and drive a further 2.5 miles, through one set of traffic lights, and take the next left after the traffic lights into Coach Road. At the end of Coach Road you will see the famous Lodge Corner Gate directly ahead of you. Turn right and the main entrance is on your left after 300 yards. Traffic allowing it should take no more than 20 minutes from the Golden Pheasant to Oulton Park.
"The Pheasant" is a 200-year-old, traditional wayside inn, it has a wealth of beams, low ceilings and a magnificent carved oak bar. It is CAMRA and AA recommended. It has a very large car park which can easily accomodate cars with trailers. It is famous for having a celebrity neighbour a few years ago in Gary Barlow of Take That during the early years of the band!
Rooms in the hotel are usually £90+, but, for a special deal for visitors to Oulton Park don't call the main number, call Chris (the General Manager) on 07999 099017 and tell him you have been recommended by Tim Arnold, for a very special deal including breakfast!
The George & Dragon, Great Budworth
The owners of "The Pheasant" also own the George & Dragon, pub and restaurant, a grade 2 listed building in the pituresque Cheshire village of Great Budworth (not to be confused with Little Budworth where Oulton Park is situated - the two Budworths are 14 miles apart!).
Great Budworth village is frequently used for filming by television companies. Most recently a major high street bank's advert featured the George & Dragon.
The George and Dragon doesn't offer accomodation but does offer a great alternative for eating out when staying at The Golden Pheasant. The George & Dragon at Budworth is just 5 miles from The Golden Pheasant at Plumley.
