An Appraisal By A Team Owner:

Testing with Madgwick Motorsport - Brands Hatch, 1986

"In 1986 Tim Arnold completed a series of tests with my team, Madgwick Motorsport, with our Formula Ford 2000 Reynard. In agreement with my Chief Engineer I felt Tim had more than average natural talent and more promise than the Brazilian driver, Mauricio Sandro Sala, who we had run earlier in that season. In one test he was posting times equal to Mark Blundell (who won the FF2000 Championship that year) and Bertrand Gachot, both of whom went on to drive in Formula one. On that basis I was pleased to offer Tim the opportunity to join our Fornula 3 team, subject to him bringing a minimal budget to top up our team budget... unfortunately he was unable to raise the budget, which was a great shame!"

Robert Synge, Madgwick Motorsport

Quoted with the kind permission of Robert Synge in November 2005 - Robert was the Managing Director of Madgwick Motorsport and went on to be Team Manager of BAR F1 in 1999 and 2000.
